The starting image was a calm lake at dawn by Nick Iliasov on Unsplash. The original is shown below. I straightened the horizon and added a little pop and color intensity with Camera Raw filter in Photoshop. I thought water that smooth should have a reflection, so I duplicated the layer, turned it upside down, lowered the opacity and masked off the lake part and positioned it to make that reflection.
Now, I needed something to be the subject. I searched for boats on PixelSquid and thought this tall ship would be perfect. After it was positioned in the image, I had to darken the overall color and lighten the shadows to make it match the lighting on the lake. I did the same thing with the ship to make a reflection, but this time, I used a layer mask to make the reflection lighter as it gets farther from the ship.
By now, this was looking like an advertising poster, so I added a tag line with FoglihtenNo07 font - classy but unique.
Take care and stay well.
